My Customers

Part of my discovery journey is to become a (my) self-expert and to decide on the domain of my next startup project. In this post I will explore the different domains that I am attracted to, because I think it is meaningful and believe in the opportunities.

Below are the different domains, not ranked according to my preferences (yet).

1). Education : I believe the current system is reaching it’s limit for some students in the 21st century. There are real opportunities to re-imagine education. More specifically, it’s role, the content, the way we teach/learn and the outcome/success of the students.

Consider this:

i). Reimagine Education: Abandoning Age-Based Learning. A SXSW talk.

ii). The case for 21st-century learning by OECD here.

2). Work : The way we find, do and learn for work seem a bit broken. Especially in the age of network, abundance of opportunities and digitalisation of organisation.

Some context:

The average person born in the latter years of the baby boom (1957-1964) held 11.7 jobs from age 18 to age 48, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Nearly half of these jobs were held from ages 18 to 24.

90% of Millennials (born between 1977-1997) expect to stay in a job for less than three years, according to the Future Workplace Multiple Generations @ Work” survey of 1,189 employees and 150 managers. That means they would have 15 – 20 jobs over the course of their working lives!. …Extracted from an article here.

The futurework – Trends and Challenges for Work in the 21st Century Reports from US Department of Labor here.

What makes us feel good at work by Dan Ariely’s TEDx talk here.

3). Cultures : How different national cultures, personal experience, personalities and preferences help us to decide. This is challenges is further sped up by rapid globalisation, digitalisation of services or organisation and opportunities for hyper personalisation, curation/discovery and recommendations – with the advancement of machine learning, large distributed computing, Internet, human networks and mobile computing.

4). Healthcare : More specifically senior (3rd age), from retirement to end of life phase including the role of seniors in society, the health insurance (in the US end-of-life care consumes 2/3rds of all healthcare dollars spent during a person’s lifetime) and end-of -life journey.

5). Well being : Providing a spatial-temporal space for individual to connect with his surrounding, community, ancestor and self (mind and body).

Food for thoughts:
